Description

#1 Bestselling Sports Book on Amazon (over 100,000 copies sold)

In Game Changers, award-winning author Dan Gold brings together the inspiring stories of some of the world's greatest athletes to reveal the powerful lessons hidden behind their triumphs, failures and defining moments.

But this isn't a traditional sports book.

Rather than simply recounting careers and statistics, Game Changers pairs and weaves together the stories of remarkable individuals, uncovering the common traits and life lessons that fueled their success. Through these unique narrative connections, readers discover practical strategies for overcoming adversity, building confidence, developing resilience, handling pressure, leading others and pursuing meaningful goals.

Featuring unforgettable stories from legends such as Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, Tom Brady, Lionel Messi, Simone Biles, Jackie Robinson and many others, this engaging collection shows that greatness is rarely the result of talent alone. It is built through perseverance, courage, discipline and character.

Written for teens and young adults, yet embraced by parents, educators and adult readers alike, Game Changers offers something increasingly rare: a book that inspires, teaches and entertains at the same time.

Whether you're an athlete striving to improve, a student facing challenges, a parent looking for meaningful lessons to share or simply someone seeking motivation and perspective, these stories will stay with you long after the final page.

The qualities that create champions in sports are often the same qualities that create success in life.

Office Review from Readers Favorites:

Athletes are respected because they inspire people from all walks of life. In Game Changers, author Dan Gold presents the stories of some of these extraordinary sportsmen and sportswomen who not only left a mark in their respective sports but changed the world through their resilience, determination, leadership, and perseverance. Serena and Venus Williams' rise to fame came at the cost of training every day on subpar courts while navigating economic hardships as they grew up in the gritty neighborhood of Compton, California. Soccer superstar Lionel Messi was eleven years old when he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency. Apart from being exemplary athletes, soccer player Marcus Rashford and tennis player Naomi Osaka have also been fierce advocates for change. AFL footballer Ben Cousins and soccer legend Maradona went through their own redemption arcs.

Game Changers is a book any sports fanatic would love. From tennis to soccer, hockey to basketball, author Dan Gold shares the remarkable stories of these real-life athletic superstars who overcame their unique challenges to leave legacies that transcend their sports. Gold does a masterful job of connecting these narratives to emphasize the lessons that readers can learn from these exceptional people. At the end of each chapter, you will discover action plans inspired by the deeds of some of the most renowned athletes in the world. As a hardcore soccer/football fan, I particularly enjoyed the stories of Lionel Messi, Marcus Rashford, and Maradona. This book is a treat for any sports lover. If you're looking for something inspirational, engaging, and illuminating, I highly recommend Game Changers!

Dan Gold

Dan Gold is a lifelong sports fan, father of four, and storyteller who believes the lessons learned through sports mirror the lessons that matter most in life.
Raised in the Midwest, he caught and pitched, wrestled through long winters and played linebacker under the Friday night lights. Those experiences left a lasting mark—teaching him about teamwork, perseverance, humility and what it means to get back up after a hard loss.
Before becoming an author, Dan spent years as a surgeon and in business—careers that demanded the same qualities that sports had instilled early on: preparation, focus, composure under pressure and the ability to work as part of a team. Those parallels between sports and life were never lost on him. As a dad and youth coach, he saw those same values come full circle, shaping his children and countless young athletes into stronger, more grounded people.
That belief lies at the heart of his award-winning Game Changers series, which shares true stories of athletes and coaches whose lives remind readers that real success is measured not by wins, but by effort, resilience, integrity and heart. His debut, Game Changers: Inspirational Sports Stories, earned the 2025 Readers’ Favorite Gold Medal and continues to inspire teens, parents and coaches alike.
Dan lives in Connecticut, where he writes to celebrate the spirit of sports and the athletes who embody its best values—and to pass along the timeless message that victories fade, but character endures.
