Hillier (V.M. Hillyer), born in Weymouth, Massachusetts, was an outstanding American educator. He devoted his life to elementary and middle school education, loved history and art, and enjoyed traveling. After graduating from Harvard University with an undergraduate degree, he taught at Browning School in New York for two years, then moved to Baltimore and became the first principal of Calwater School. Hillier created the primary homeschool education system, the "Carlwater School System", which benefits the children of government employees, consuls, officers, and missionaries around the world.
